Chord X is a chord progression ear trainer for guitarists and other musicians. I began working on it to keep myself busy during the COVID-19 lockdown. Since then it has come a long way from a clunky Windows prototype to a fully-fledged mobile app. It is now available on Android and Apple devices and enjoyed by users in 40+ countries.
In this quirky puzzle platformer you guide a speck of light out of a dark cave, where it had been cast by an unknown force. You must use your ears to compare pitches and put melodies back together in order to reconstruct Speck's broken path, help him avoid hidden traps and escape sinister enemies.
Unfortunately, I was forced to shelve this project due to insidious scope creep.
Aside from providing drum grooves across a range of musical styles, this drum machine allows you to create mute patterns, muting specific beats in the drum track, which makes practicing rhythm and groove more challenging and enaging. There's a Pro version, too, with features like additional drum kits, a sound mixer, odd meters, and customizable metronome clicks.
Navigate space by ear, rocking out to 12 original adaptive metal tracks. Collect guitar picks, unlock new skins and sounds, and perhaps find your way home.
The spice of this game is the adaptive music system made possible by the Ureal Engine MetaSound system. It instantly reacts to in-game events, which are tied to the rhythm of the music, allowing a skilled player to directly and intentionally influence the soundtrack, while tilt control adds a layer of physical engagement.
